The First Dementia-Specific Scrub Range in NZ

OUR WORKDec 13, 2020

Last year we launched Uniform Me, a fun range of printed scrubs, masks and scrub hats that has quickly garnered fast fans in those who work with children and want a more light-hearted style of uniform. St Andrews, with retirement living options and a modern care facility including rest home, hospital and dementia care, approached us to create a range of printed tops appropriate for their staff including those in the dementia unit.

They were after a uniform that ensured their staff looked professional, as well as appearing approachable, friendly, and non-threatening to the village residents. Certain factors, such as printed faces or a strong medical tone, can be triggering for dementia patients so the designs needed to be interesting yet non-confrontational.

Our designer Rick created over 20 designs, which we whittled down to six. With a staff vote, we ended up with five final designs, including a gorgeous midnight navy top with paua trim for the registered nurse team.

The end result is a series of tops that unify the team and differentiate staff from visitors, but which don’t look too medical or scary for the residents.

“Working with Chloe, Victoria, Janine and the Fashion Uniform’s team to design and produce our new uniform range has been a real pleasure. This has been a huge project for St Andrews and our staff, residents and families are thrilled with the results.”
